What are the processes involved in construction projects monitoring and control?

Friday Mar 19, 2010

I’m currently engaged on a project about automation for construction projects monitoring and control. In order for me kick off this project, i need to understand more about construction projects monitoring and control aspects especially in the eyes of construction project managers. Is there any automation available in the market developed to attain this situation? Your kind attention and answer is greatly appreciated.

Earned value is the universal monitoring tool. You can look it up in any PM book.
The hitch is that it is usually reported incorrectly due to human factors.
Result is that your project will be late.

Different tactical reasons to have a marketing campaign?

Friday Mar 19, 2010

Right ok we know the reason to have a marketing campaign is to sell goods, products, services etc. However some marketing camapigns have more specific tactical objectves.

We are procurring some ad software for the net and reselling the ad space to customers. We have direct access to advertising customers so will sell directly, however fill in space by using google ads etc ehen space remains unsold.

To make sure we have the right platform for advertising it works to cross check against all sorts of tactical campaign requirements.

Such as:

* brand awareness,
* product awareness,
* education of benefits
* shifting stock
* selling tickets fast to an event

etc

What are the different tactical reasons for having a marketing campaign ?

Hey Life….

I did the many years of studying this and looking at that ant trying to figure out which ad campaign worked and which didn’t…

I then hear Jerry DellaFamina talk about products and businesses!
He is the biggest advertising guru in the USA. So I know that he knows his advertising!

And you know what he says…..?

CREATE A BUZZ!

That’s it! He says don’t worry about advertising, create a buzz and then you’ll know where you need to concentrate your efforts in bringing the product to the people.

So my answer as to reasons to have a Marketing Campaign? It’s to find out were to place the "buzz"

Differentiating yourself Part 2.c : Research and Target Market

Differentiating Yourself Part 2.c : Research and Target Market

Ultimately, the introduction phase is all about doing your homework and learning your target market. After all, if you aren’t going after the right people, then all the marketing in the world really won’t help you. The concept of research and discovering your target market sounds easy enough in theory. In practice, it can be a bit more tricky than you would assume. To help address the problems, this article will discuss how to define your target market, making sure they are even able to buy your goods, and some options for polling them to get as much valuable data about them before you spend a penny rolling out your production.

Define your target market

Most marketers use 2 types of attributes to define a market:

Demographics Age, Gender, Salary, Location, etc

Psychographics Values, Lifestyle, Behavior, Opinions

Psychographics are particularly important in the introduction phase because you will need to convince your prospects that they have a need/want for your product. This is also one of the only times in the marketing cycle that you will want to specifically call out product attributes. This goes against the general marketing rule that you always want to market the solution you provide (ie: better picture quality) versus the attribute (1080P). In the introduction phase, you actually need to do both- Attribute to educate and solution to create desire.

A useful trick in this stage is to create a few buyer profiles and target your marketing at satisfying their particular needs. If you did a good job in creating the profiles, you’ll find that they serve as a pretty good proxy for your full market. You can download a free copy of my exercise on “Putting a Name on your Target Market” as part of my 14 Free Tools, Tricks, and Tips.

Ready, Willing, and ABLE

While in the introduction phase, you will be marketing to your target market to get them ready, and willing. But one thing you must figure out BEFORE you begin marketing is if they are ABLE to purchase your goods once you have motivated them.

A good example is my actual business. While my main company, Evil Genius Interactive, focuses on higher-end customers and projects, EvilGeniusTV caters to beginners and new entrepreneurs. As such, it probably wouldn’t make sense for me to create a high-end VIP mastermind group here.

Why? Two big reasons come to mind. First, new business folks will not be shelling out for $10k+ programs… After all, they are just getting started and can’t afford to spend that much for the most part. Second, if you think about what goes on in mastermind groups, the biggest draw is networking with other people who you may be able to partner or cut deals with. If you are all beginners, then you probably don’t have too many connections of real value and what everybody would bring to the table is minimal.

Polling the Marketplace

Google ads and dummy products

If you are savvy with Google Adwords and have a good swipe-file to grab some known high-converting keywords, a great way to get some actual behavioral feedback is to create a dummy ad.

Traditionally, dummy ads and dummy products were a Black Hat marketing trick where Google searchers would be presented an ad for a specific product. They would then click through to the site and hopefully buy the product. At which point you would tell them that the product was out of stock. (Knowing there was never a product to begin with). What this method would show you was how well your keywords and concept converted. If they converted high enough, you would create the product, if not you would either move on or keep trying until you got the desired conversion.

This method is pretty shady (hence the Black Hat) and I really don’t condone ever doing something like that. Just not cool.

A better approach would be to do this:

Still create the dummy ad on Google, but have it point to a landing page that lets visitors know exactly what you are doing. Tell them you have a new product in development, what it’s about, and that you are going to bribe them to help you out. At this point, you can either have them walk through the dummy sales process, or present them with a poll designed to solicit what they want and what they think of your product

The key is the bribe. Remember in our last article we said that early-adopters LOVE insider information, beta products, leaked vids, etc. We’ll this is where you put them to use. Just offer them some VIP treatment and recognition that they can carry with them, and you will find that you get plenty of folks to help you out. In practice, this works nearly as well as the Black Hat dummy product trick for soliciting buyer information. And I can’t speak for you, but I DESPISE any type of shady marketing and would take a 10-20% drop in response rate any day over feeling like crap about myself and potentially ruining my reputation – just not worth it.

Surveys

The last topic we will cover are the use of surveys to gather information. (And yes there is another tool I have designed to create a kick ass survey in the “14 Tools, tricks, and tips”)

If you are using a standard blog or CMS package for your websites, you will find a variety of free plugins that make it possible to conduct numerous surveys on your own site.

Another free option is Survey Monkey (www.surveymonkey.com) here you can sign up for a free limited account. I think the free package includes 10 questions, and a limit of 100 responses, but you can also upgrade to fairly large packages for as little as $20 a month.

You can either upload a list of email addresses and they will do all the work, or you can host the survey on their site with a custom URL that you point people to.

I’ve used this site on numerous occasions in both the free and paid versions. For surveys going out to several thousand people, this site is the absolute best in my opinion.

Wrapping it up

Thanks for continuing to stick around. My next post will be the final section of the Introduction phase before we move on to the Growth phase. As always, I appreciate any comments, and encourage you to post any questions you may have. I’ll do whatever I can to help you out.

Anatomy Of Successful Bulk Email Marketing Campaign

Sunday Mar 14, 2010

Bulk email marketing is a way to reach prospective customers and to stay in communication with existing clients. It has become a big business over the last years what is quite justified. Bulk email marketing provides companies and organizations with a great possibility to advertise and sell their products and services. Sending letters to prospects and customers via email is quicker and less expensive than traditional bulk postage mail. Plus, you can easily contact people in all parts of the world and your growing email list will be bringing you more sales. With all that, bulk email marketing has one main disadvantage – unsolicited emails, often labeled as “spam”. Unsolicited emails are the emails that the recipient didn’t request. If one sends the messages to someone else without his permission, those emails are classified as spam. Sending spam can ruin the company’s reputation as people usually blame this type of mail received without their consent.

So, to accomplish a focused, targeted, and effective bulk email campaign that will bring you the results, you should consider some points before implementing it. The key to success is to follow some rules when planning your campaign.

Email Marketing Objectives

Decide on what you will tell to your audience, what you want to achieve with your email campaign. Is it a newsletter for establishing a relationship with your prospect customers, or is it a sales-oriented letter for your existing clients? Do you want to generate leads, bring more traffic to your web site, inspire the loyalty, or increase sales?

Building Your Email List

Don’t buy ready-made lists of email addresses from a source that you don’t know well. Don’t use email harvester software to collect the email addresses from web sites. The best approved way to build your own mailing list is to design a sing-in form on your web page. People who visit your site and are interested in learning more about your products and services will leave you their email addresses. Over time you’ll build a database of subscribers who signed up to hear from you. If you segment your subscribers depending on their preferences, you’ll need to design multiple email messages to send more relevant information to each audience.

Don’t Sell at Once

Don’t start selling in the first letter. In your first emails you should talk about the customers’ problems and provide some useful information about your business. If you sell software, inform people about the latest releases, and include software reviews that you have read. Always keep the content of your emails in line with what people signed up for. Be careful at declaring that you are the solution for them until they have some trust and faith for you. You can remind them of your services at the end of your message.

Personalize Your Message

Your email message will look more professional and reputable if you personalize it by addressing your subscriber by name. A personalized message makes the impression that you value every subscriber and thoroughly prepared your email campaign.

Write in the Informal and Comprehensive Manner

Don’t make your message content too official and abstruse. Keep to the informal tone of writing. But don’t make it too chatty either. Find the golden mean. Write like you are telling a story. Avoid direct commands and obstinate requests. Include advices and suggestions by using the phrases like “In our experience…”, “We discovered…”, “Our research shows…” etc.

Avoid using big attachments. They increase the size of your message and take some time to download. You should better unload the file that you intend to attach to your web site and give the link to it in your message. Those recipients who would be interested to see the attachment will download the file onto their computers. If you use links within the message, make sure they are working. Don’t use too many “I” and “We” in your message. Don’t focus much on yourself or your company regalia. Nobody is interested in your personal information. The content must be relevant and meet the customer’s interests.

Your subject line. It should be short and to the point.

And finally, how are people supposed to unsubscribe from your email list? Don’t forget to provide them with an unsubscribe link somewhere in your message.

Make it a rule to always read your email copy several times before you send it out. A nice idea is to have someone else read your message with a fresh look. It’s better to discover and correct any possible mistake and typos beforehand rather than make your subscribers feel you lack precision.

Manage Bounces and Unsubscribes

You should be ready to receive bounced messages. People change the email addresses from to time and they may not notify you about it. So, you shouldn’t expect that your email message will reach all your subscribers. Remove bounced email addresses and the emails addresses of those recipients who unsubscribed from your database or mailing list. This will help you maintain a database of those customers and prospects only who really want to hear from you.

So, it turns out that the route to effective email marketing is not so easy and simple. You should spend some efforts and time to achieve a success with your bulk email campaign. But it’s worth it, isn’t it?

Marketing Your Business on the Internet 101

Sunday Mar 14, 2010

Even if you know how important it is to market your business on the internet, you don’t have thousands of dollars to spend each month, and you may not be an expert on Search Engine Optimization or Keyword Advertising (yet).

This article is about using consistent, free (or cheap) marketing strategies that you can start using today to make a difference in your business.

The Goal of marketing your business on the internet is to get consistent traffic to your site from your target market.

The three key words to remember about internet marketing are Consistent, Targeted, and Smart.

~Consistent marketing practices will help you build a trusted presence on the web, and catch people who visit the same sites regularly. New people are always suspect, and you may not start to get results until you’ve been around long enough for people to trust you.

~A Targeted strategy will focus on the type of person who is most likely to be interested in your product or service. If your ideal customer is a truck driver between 40 and 50 years old, you should not be marketing to young single moms on Myspace.

~Smart marketing means using the tools the big kids use. Do some research to discover what the successful marketers are doing to get crazy high traffic, and do that. My mentor Walter Hailey always told me that “It’s easier to copy genius than to create mediocrity.”

It will take time to create the kind of web presence that will generate consistent traffic (and revenue) for your business, but as long as your effort is targeted, consistent, and smart, you will attract quality customers without spending thousands of dollars or hundreds of hours of your time.

Let’s get down to specifics – what can I start doing in my business tomorrow that will put me on the path to generating more traffic for my site and putting more money in my pocket?

I will assume that you already have a website for your business, and a professional email address with a unique url (not generic like yourname@gmail.com or business@yahoo.com). If you don’t have one yet, you can get one free from Google. Your next step is getting your business name, image, and content onto the web where your target market will find it and become a customer/client.

There are three main categories of marketing strategies to investigate as you are creating a marketing plan: Networking, Blogging/Article Writing, and Advertising.

1. Social or Business Networking. Become a part of a networking community where you can build your own profile or web page and interact with others in the community. There are a ton of networking sites on the internet, some of which are mostly for socializing about niche topics, others are more focused on doing business. Choose 3-5 networks to join, and make sure all of them are connected to each other, and back to your website.

Here are a few to get you started: Facebook, Myspace, Squidoo, Twitter, LinkedIn, Direct Matches, Shmoozii, Biznik

2. Blogging and Article Writing. They go together like peanuts and raisins. Every article you write for the blog should also be published on the web to as many article directories as possible, with your link included in the resource box. The more places your link appears on the web, the better. Update the blog frequently, put an RSS feed on your website and social networking profiles, and tell your friends about it. Search engines love fresh, new content that matches keywords, so including keywords in the blog content can help searchers find you.

Google’s Blogspot is a great way to get started if you have never had a blog before. Wordpress, Squarespace, Typepad, and Thoughts.com are easy to use, have professional looking templates, and can be set up in a few hours.

As for Article Directories, you can submit by hand, but I wouldn’t recommend it. People getting real results with article writing have an automated service that submits articles to hundreds of directories automatically. I have found two: SubmitYOURArticle (web-based) and Article Submitter Platinum (Software). They are not free, but they are worth it if you choose article writing as one of your marketing strategies.

3. Advertising using Adwords, keywords, pay-per-click, or traffic exchanges. Although it is less personal, advertising gives you access to a vast number of people for a relatively small cost – and most sites have free trials or sign-up bonuses that can help you create an ad that works before you start paying for it. Use the same keywords that are on your website and blog in your advertisements, and search engines will like you even more.

My short list of Advertising sites would include: Adland Pro, Bananapile, ReaLook, Spiderjump, and HitsFrenzy. Also look at Clickable – a service that can manage advertising campaigns on Google, Yahoo, MSN, and others simultaneously.

Using a few of the services from all three of the above categories in tandem will create a tight web to capture your customers and send them to your site. As long as you update Consistently, Target your campaigns accurately, and be Smart about where you spend your money and time, you can see results in a little as a few weeks and secure your long-term success.

Best of luck with your research, stick with it, and remember that even in the tedious moments, owning your own business is so much better than going to work at 9am in a job that doesn’t fulfill you.

Do Good and Be Well,

~Colin Turner
